The most popular Gallery Room in the main Devereaux Shields House c1893 is a spacious, romantic grand room on top level of home opening to a private gallery overlooking our front garden. The room features high ceilings, period antique furnishings including a king size bed with Victorian walnut headboard, Victorian walnut wardrobe, a fireplace for viewing, and comfortable Victorian seating in the turret area. The room also includes a private bath with shower over tub, ceiling fan and cable TV for the comfort of 2 guests.

  Rose Suite #2 – Elegant 2-Room Suite – Main Bedroom

The equally popular Rose Suite in the main Devereaux Shields House c1893 is a spacious, elegant 2-room suite on the top level of our home with comfortable atmosphere overlooking our side and rear gardens. The room features high ceilings, period antique furnishings including a king size bed with Victorian walnut headboard, Victorian seating area with a fireplace for viewing ambience. A second bedroom includes a walnut sleigh bed (queen) and empire period settee. The room also includes a private bath with shower over tub, ceiling fan and cable TV for the comfort of up to 4 guests. The Louise Room, located in Aunt Clara’s Cottage c1873, is a spacious, bright room with a high ceiling and featuring period antique furnishings including a 4-postered mahogany rice bed (queen), a tiger stripe maple bed (double) and also includes a private bath with shower over tub, ceiling fan, cable TV and wireless Internet for the comfort of up to 4 guests. The Devereaux Shields House c. 1893 is a small inn featuring five beautifully appointed rooms, beautifully manicured gardens, and exhibits architectural features of the Queen Ann Victorian style, including asymmetric design, a circular corner turret, fish-scale siding, one-over-one double hung sash and bay windows, elaborate chimneys with decorated caps and a former wrap-around front porch now partially converted into a bedroom opening upon the rear garden.

Guests may stroll the beautifully manicured gardens covered with camellias and Natchez white crepe myrtles that surround the Devereaux Shields House. Relax during your stay with us whether enjoying quiet time together with morning coffee on the rear garden bench, sitting together overlooking the peaceful neighborhood street, strolling the surrounding gardens or going on a peaceful, early morning walks hand-in-hand along the rise overlooking the persistent and meandering Mississippi river just blocks away.

 

Main Dining Room

The Devereaux Shields House enjoys a spacious and professionally decorated main dining room. Breakfasts are often served here and requests for luncheons or dinners are welcome. We offer special luncheons and five-course candlelight dinners for groups of up to 12 people with appropriate advanced reservations. Please call us directly for more information.

The Devereaux Shields House enjoys a beautiful and professionally decorated first floor entry, guest parlor, main stairway, wet bar and living room featuring 12-foot ceilings, pocket doors, and period antique and reproduction furnishings.

  The Devereaux Shields House’s breakfast room, located in Aunt Clara’s Cottage c1873, is a delightful room featuring a large Victorian walnut table, additional smaller tables and comfortable seating that may also be used for relaxing over tea or coffee, reading, games, crafts or seminars. A typical breakfast may include omelet-du-jour, bacon, southern sausage, southern grits, fruit medley in fresh squeezed orange juice, quiche, french toast, variety of muffins, biscuits, toast, assorted juices, and assorted jellies indigenous to Mississippi.
